World War 1 was known as a war of inches, a conflict in which both sides pushed on the other achieving often minimal gains at a great cost. In this first episode, dive into how the team at Petroglyph hope to deliver an authentic WW1 experience, with the outcome of every battle not only defined by victory or defeat. As Field Commander, players will return to battlefields throughout the campaign, where lush green fields will give way to barren stretches of mud, craters and crumbling buildings. They’ll define their strategies by carving trench networks into the countryside, aiming to secure a foothold for their forces as the relentless cost of the war saps at their National Will.
Preparation for each battle, however, begins before even the first trench is dug. Every decision the player makes in the role of Theatre Commander offers new tactical opportunities, both on the campaign map and on the front-line.
Created by legendary studio Petroglyph (Command & Conquer: Remastered, Star Wars: Empire at War), The Great War: Western Front allows the player’s commands to influence the shape of the war. Will their choices bring about a swifter end to the war? Or possibly change the outcome, as a result of different technological advancements? When the time comes, the onus is on the player to relive history, or redefine it.
