Frontier to reveal Elite Dangerous 2025 development roadmap during Frontier Unlocked at 18:00 GMT today (26th February)

Cambridge, UK (26th February 2025) – Frontier Developments plc (AIM: FDEV, ‘Frontier’) today released the eagerly-anticipated Trailblazers update for Elite Dangerous, providing players with the power to claim and build upon their own star systems, inscribing their name into Elite’s galactic legacy.

With humanity in recovery following the epic conclusion of the Second Thargoid War and a resounding victory over the final Titan in the Battle of Sol, Commanders are now tasked with re-establishing humankind’s expansion across the stars. The new System Colonisation contact present at station services will allow players to purchase a claim to a nearby system, where they’ll travel to before deploying a beacon, calling in a colossal System Colonisation Ship to act as a temporary construction site for a starport of their choice.

Stepping into the role of System Architect, Commanders will then be required to contribute the necessary commodities in order to complete their structure. Contributions can also be made by other Commanders, providing new routes for the ambitions of Powerplay factions, or a foothold for future expansion into neighbouring systems. Following the primary starport’s construction, the System Architect is then able to guide future developments both in space and planet-side, with each completed structure contributing to changes in the system’s economy as well as unlocking more complex facilities for construction. System Architects are also able to collect weekly regular income from their owned system, and in heavily developed systems will access a discount on modules and ships to support future expansion across the stars.

Trailblazers will also introduce a new Refinery Contact, who will turn mined resources into a refined product which can be used in construction efforts, including the new material, haematite, found in rocky asteroid fields alongside new variants of station types, Ice and Metallic Asteroid Stations.

The next chapter in Elite Dangerous will be written by Commanders, creating bustling new economies and mission hubs, cementing their personal legacies across the stars, or emboldening the ambitions of galactic Powerplay factions.

The System Colonisation feature will launch in a beta phase, with player progress and balancing frequently assessed by Frontier following release. All players who own a copy of Elite Dangerous on PC and are playing in Live Mode will have access to System Colonisation, regardless of whether they own a copy of Elite Dangerous: Odyssey. All on-foot content requires players to own a copy of Elite Dangerous: Odyssey.
