Environmental
At Frontier, we are committed to reducing plastic production, our carbon footprint, and the use of fossil fuels to preserve our environment.
We have already been working hard to be as environmentally sensitive as practical for many years. We have looked at the various aspects of the business – our games, our building, and our teams.
OUR GAMES
Physical discs are made from plastic, and need to be transported to warehouses, then to retailers around the world. Our digital focussed business model is such that now only 5.0% of our games in FY23 were released onto physical disc, much lower than many publishers in our industry. All our games are also heavily compressed to ensure that the games fit on a single disc, and for digital downloads, both the game servers and our players benefit from a reduction in the energy usage and time required for downloading.
OUR BUILDING
Our studio has a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating – because of the great insulation, efficient heating and cooling, alongside other key eco-initiatives such as solar panels, and our heat recovery and ventilation system. We utilise a green energy electricity tariff, we employ a segregated waste process, and we provide electric charging points for employees and visitors’ cars.
OUR TEAMS
We encourage similar environmentally conscious conduct with our people, particularly in relation to their commute to work and the use of energy in their roles.
As a company, we aid teams in making smart journeys through our association with SmartJourneys. As part of this, we encourage employees commuting via car to do so in joint occupancy with at least one team member – thereby reducing the harmful emissions and road congestion of their daily travel. We are also an active promoter of the cycle-to-work scheme with strong uptake of this workplace benefit. We incentivise our people to take advantage of this environmentally beneficial and tax-free scheme through secure, complimentary bike parking as well as regular on-site bike maintenance and repairs.
We have implemented a hybrid working model which supports our people further in making smart journeys for work.
Our team work together to reduce energy usage by using energy-efficient equipment that reduces power consumption when not active and following a ‘switch-off’ policy for computers, laptops, and other equipment.
